Drinks Guide

As all weddings are different and some of the information below may not be relevant to your day, we are very flexible and will try to accommodate any of your requirements that we can. Please call or email to discuss anything in further detail.

You need to think about drinks for a number of different points during the day.

1) Arrival/ reception drinks

2) Wine during the meal

3) Toasting drinks

4) The Bar

5) Tea and coffee

This is the traditional way, but none of these ‘stages’ are compulsory and so please don’t feel constrained by this list. Remember it is your wedding, and this information is designed to help you decide.

Post ceremony drinks

These can be served to your guests on arrival at the Barn from a church or after your ceremony. There are a number of different options available to you, champagne, sparkling wine, Pimms, bottled lager, beer, cocktails, we would recommend including an alcohol-free option too. Your wedding coordinator will happily discuss the options available to you.

Wine during the meal

We recommend for a three course meal that you order the equivalent of half a bottle of wine per person.

For example, for 80 guests, 20 bottles of red and 20 bottles of white. One bottle can serve 3 large (250ml) glasses. We usually put one bottle of each on every table to start, and then bring more out as and when the bottles start to get low. We will open the bottles as we need to, and only charge you for what we have opened. Any open wine left at the end of the meal will be put on the end of the bar for guests to continue drinking.  Jugs of iced water will be provided on each table and refilled throughout the meal.

Toasts

One 75cl bottle of champagne or sparkling wine pours 6 glasses, so for example, 80 guests would need 14 bottles. If the speeches are at the end of the meal we can pour the drinks in the bar area while desserts are being eaten. Then as dessert plates are cleared, we can serve a glass to each person, leaving the top table until last - this way the bridal party have the freshest drinks and you can be sure that all the guests have a glass when the speeches start. Alternatively, if speeches are before the meal it flows well asking guests to take a glass from a table next to the seating plan before they sit down. We recommend providing a non-alcoholic option too.

The Bar

If you are getting married at The Barn at Brynich the bar will open after the ceremony.

Please note that it is illegal for there to be alcohol drunk in the venue before the ceremony. Therefore the bar will not be open and your guests will not be permitted to bring their own drinks into the Barn. If the registrar sees alcohol they may refuse to conduct the ceremony.

If you have your service elsewhere and are arriving at the Barn for your wedding reception, the bar will be open on your arrival.

Madri and Aspall are available on tap. We serve Guinness micro-draft. We have a full selection of spirits and mixers, soft drinks and bottled beers, lagers and cider.

Ale for the bar can be sourced from a small Welsh brewery, Grey Trees. Ale has a very limited shelf life and so can only be used for your wedding.

Couples have the option EITHER to purchase the keg (36 or 72 pints) outright upfront from us and have it served to their guests OR we can purchase the keg (36 or 72 pints) and sell over the bar to guests. We would then sell any remaining at the end of the night to the wedding couple at a reduced price – this can then be consumed in the cottages the following day.

We may be able to source particular drinks that are not normally stocked. These will be quoted for on request and any that remain unsold at the end of the night will be charged for at a rate to be agreed.

Any keg deposits, delivery charges etc will also be chargeable.

Tea & Coffee

We sell tea and coffee over the bar, but we don't have the facility to provide this in large quantities, so if you would like coffee at the end of the meal this is something your caterer will need to provide. All other drinks however must be purchased through the bar.

Tabs

If you wish to we can set up a tab on the bar for the entire event for an agreed time period (e.g. after the ceremony until the start of the meal, or for the first hour of the evening) on a money limit e.g. £500. This type of tab must be agreed and paid for in advance through the means of a pre-auth. If you like, we can set up tabs for soft drinks only or wine and beer only. Or you can run a tab just the bridal party or for the suppliers, i.e. band, entertainment etc.

Corkage

If you would like to source your own wines & Champagnes then you are welcome to do so. We do, however, charge corkage on for every 75cl bottles opened.  If you would like to take this option we will keep your drinks behind the bar and our staff will serve them and make sure your guests’ glasses are kept topped up. We will continue to serve them until the end of the meal. Any full, unopened, bottles remaining in the cellar after everyone has left their seats will be returned to you the following day.

Alcohol in the Barn

We must insist that you and your guests purchase all drinks from our bar during your wedding day. We have in the past had an issue with guests bringing their own drinks into the Barn, or using drinks that they have in the cottages (Including going to the cottages to top up their glasses). This puts us in breach of licensing laws. Any drinks found on the premises that have not been purchased from our bar will be subject to a flat rate corkage charge of £200. We sincerely apologise for this, but we simply cannot afford (legally or financially) for this to happen.

Therefore we strongly advise that you make the guests using the cottages aware of this and ask the ushers/best man/ bridesmaids and bridal party generally to help monitor the situation.

Underage Guests

It is illegal to sell alcohol to anyone under the age of 18. Please advise your guests that if they look underage they will be asked for photographic proof of age.
